Being a photographer in New Plymouth isn’t just about taking photos — it’s about being surrounded by inspiration every single day. From dramatic coastlines to quiet bush tracks, strong local communities, and ever-changing light, this place constantly pushes me to create better work.
It’s home. And it’s the perfect place to do what I love.
A Landscape That Never Gets Old
One of the biggest reasons I love shooting here is the natural backdrop we’re lucky enough to have.
On a clear day, you’ve got Mount Taranaki (Maunga Taranaki) standing tall in the background. On others, you’ve got moody clouds rolling in over the Tasman Sea. No two days ever look the same.
That variety keeps things exciting. Whether I’m shooting real estate, portraits, or landscapes, there’s always something special happening with the light, the sky, or the scenery.
Strong Community, Real People
New Plymouth has a tight-knit, supportive community, and that makes a huge difference.
I get to work with local business owners, families, athletes, creatives, and entrepreneurs who are passionate about what they do. People here care about quality and relationships — not just ticking boxes.
That means every shoot feels personal. It’s not just another job. It’s helping someone tell their story properly.
Creative Freedom
Living and working here gives me space to be creative.
There’s no rush-hour chaos. No overcrowded locations. No fighting for shooting spots. Instead, I’ve got time to plan, experiment, and really focus on getting the best possible result for my clients.
That freedom lets me try new ideas, explore new locations, and keep improving my craft.
From Coast to Country in Minutes
One of the best things about New Plymouth is how close everything is.
In a single afternoon, I can shoot:
A beachfront session
A farm property
A forest portrait
A city branding shoot
All within a short drive.
That flexibility is massive — especially for clients who want variety without travelling far.
Watching People Grow Through Photos
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing people grow over time.
I’ve photographed:
First homes
Growing businesses
Young athletes
Families year after year
Personal brands from day one
Being trusted to document those journeys is something I don’t take lightly. It’s a privilege.
Pride in Representing Taranaki
Every time I deliver a set of images, I’m representing not just my business — but this region.
I want my work to show how good Taranaki really is. The landscapes. The people. The opportunities. The lifestyle.
There’s a lot to be proud of here, and photography is my way of sharing that with the rest of the country.
Final Thoughts
I love being a photographer in New Plymouth because it gives me everything I need: inspiration, community, balance, and purpose.
It lets me do meaningful work, build real relationships, and create images that last.
I wouldn’t trade it for anywhere else.
If you’re based in Taranaki and looking to tell your story through professional photos or video, I’d love to help bring it to life.
